  • 1989 Château Talbot

My last bottle of the 89 and the one with the most suspect cellaring. It was past peak but still drinkable. Subtle fruit, lots of tertiary notes on the nose. Still some acidity, not dead, mellow tannins. Still pretty well balanced although its definitely on the back side of the curve. We enjoyed the bottle but were very glad we opened it. We had 7 bottles of the 89, the other six were properly cellared since delivery in 91. I think they aged better, so this bottle may be a bit of a gamble depending on history.

  • 2007 Fattoria dei Barbi Brunello di Montalcino

We just dusted off a few bottles that have been cellared at the source in Montalcino. Beautiful wine with maybe a little time left; Drinking close to peak. Subtle sour cherry, notes of pencil and spice. Leather. Palate matches the nose with smooth tannins and still some fresh acidity. Showing age with obvious brick change at the rim fading into a subtle garnet. It did need some time in air. This was an immaculately stored bottle so seems to have some time left but I plan to drink our remaining bottles soon.

  • 2019 Evening Shade Pinot Noir

This was a surprising, cheap wine sourced from Fresh Market, around $7 on sale. The nose was lovely with mature red fruit notes and some earthiness. The palate was a little flat, didn't follow the nose but not bad. A tad thin with a short-medium finish. I'm leaving a tasting note because overall this was a very good for the money and would hold it's own nicely against much higher dollar wines.
