My first experience of this classic wine style, and this a reasonable version at what was a bargain price from my local grocery store a few years ago. A lemon yellow with hints of green, this wine resembled a young riesling or lime cordial. The nose first off produced those wafts of rubber, followed by wet wool, a cheesy yeasty quality, Honey, and yes even burnt toast. On the palate, the wine is surprisingly rich but still quite sharply acidic, producing flavours of lime cordial and lemon, leading into a finish of toasty butteriness. I would say this wine has a few years left in it, and will open my remaining bottle in the next 2 years . A unique experience that hovers somewhere between Australian riesling, Loire Chenin blanc, and lightly oaked chardonnay. Give it a try!
