Albariño is normally found in the coastal areas of Portugal and northwestern Spain, but these wines tend to be very tart and rather light. However, tasting this wine and others from warmer areas — e.g., Stephen Ross in Edna Valley, Hendry in Napa Valley, Abacela in Umpqua Valley, OR, and Les Vignobles Foncalieu in the Pays d'Oc — I am convinced the Albariño has a real future in warmer climes. While still tart relative to the vast majority of its California brethren, this Tangent offers a bit more oomph than its Portuguese and Spanish brethren. Drink soon to enjoy its freshness.
