Disgorged in 2006, a blend of the 2004 and 2005 vintages, also 50/50, I believe. For me, there is often something so outrageously dessert-like about champagne. Even Blanc de blanc, which in its youth was surely so lithe and sleek, delicate and enchanting becomes flamboyant with the affects of time. I decanted this bottle, which I’m beginning to more and more often with sparkling wines, and after half an hour came the nuttiness. An overt marzipan and white chocolate nose. Nougat with almonds and pistachios. I wasn’t expecting the richness at all — a welcome surprise.
