(Kapcsándy Family Winery Merlot Roberta’s Reserve, Napa Valley) Opaque garnet in the glass, with aromas of espresso, bitter chocolate, and dark fruit and a texture that makes you want to take your clothes off. Satiny, sexy black-cherry flavors and beautiful acidity swirl with complex espresso and earth for minutes in the mouth. Well into the finish, the tannins, smooth as butter, begin to emerge. Made from 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, it is almost certainly the best Merlot in Napa Valley, attaining a stature likely to get it confused with a premier cru Bordeaux. Only 265 cases made. Decanted 2 hours. Nice concentration with notes of black raspberry, plum, cassis with hint of graphite and spice. Overall, well balanced with silky mouthfeel and long finish. Tannins are soft and well integrated. Paired with grilled bacon-wrapped filets.

Another Great Luis Tasting! (Cahill Bistro): My first Kapcsandy, and what a very nice merlot! This was PnP, and definitely would have benefited from a decant (I would guess 2 hours or more). Even on the PnP, this wine showed an elegant fruit profile featuring lots of sweet and tart cherry, with hints of cedar and spice. 93+ to 94 on the PnP, and the potential for higher with a decant or more time.

Wow this bottle still has life left in it but was drinking well.
Oh the nose sweet but muted cherry, violets, a touch of mocha and bitter chocolate, some forest floor, and a little pepper.
Mouth feel it still had some decent dusty tannins and a long finish full of flowers, kirsch, and spice.

Alas this bottle had a bad cork. I’m not sure if it was truly corked but the wine was badly oxidized, clearly bad compared to the other bottle I opened tonight.
