It has only been two years since my last bottle, both sourced directly from the winemaker within 10 miles of where it was made, and stored impeccably, yet this bottle was very tired, with muted, fading fruit and little structure. It could well be the cork on this one, which crumbled beyond saving, oh well.

A Tour de Force Steve Clifton Tasting (Los Olivos, CA): Bottled before the winemakers could get their hands on Santa Rita Hills fruit. Fully evolved but hardly fading. The enticing bouquet of spice and cut flowers belies a very cloudy appearance. Any doubts are quickly done away with as the vibrant, acidity-laden wine hits the palate. Loads of plum and spun sugar flavor, fades a touch on the mid-palate but a real treat after 16 years.
