A private tasting (Rotterdam, NL): Tasted non-blind. Colour of old gold with some amber; rich and deep, candied fruit, tobacco and nuts, seamless, delicately sweet, pure and fresh, satiny, elegant, layered and long.

Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris. Matured in wood, bottling date not specified. 16% ABV. Lovely old gold with orange tinges, not unlike a mature Cognac; fresh aromas of honey, candied fruit, orange peel, blonde tobacco and some nuttiness; on the palate satiny and refined, energetic and elegant, medium-dry, seamless, refreshing acidity, flavours of currants, dried fruit and coffee; excellent length with a lovely, dry and floral finish. Very attractive, light on its feet, not a trace of rusticity or vinagrinho. Solera matured according to the importer's website (www.bacchantes.nl) - whatever there may be of the vintage on the label.

A business lunch (Restaurant Aan de Poel **, Amstelveen, NL): Identical to my previous note, silky and stylish, not an obvious wine but full of finesse and nuance.
