After a 2 hour decant this sexy merlot blend is hitting well above its price point. You can really feel Vincent Lamaitre's pure love for winemaking here. The nose is vivid with a floral bouquet, oak, casual perfume, damp earth and herbaceous hints of thyme, clove, rosemary and garrigue buttressing an overtone of dark fruit and red meadow berries suspended in equal measure. Down in the maw we see cherry, plum, blackberry and a nice shading of cigar tobacco and licorice skirting the foreground notes alongside more herb and shrub tonality. Medium tannins and a medium-plus body work with some playful acidity and ebullient energy at the start before wandering towards a tidy and properly dry Bordeaux finish.
This is a wonderful QPR Côtes de Bourg that is unlikely to disappoint anyone at this price.

A cotes du bourg wine.... On nose: green pepper, tart cassis and a ghost of eucalyptus. On palate: all above flavour notes intact, with damson plum, chalk, light coffee, with an almost citrus- like edge to the acidity and present tannins .... Old school Bordeaux.....a lean, edgy body of medium weight after a 2 hour decant. Age may improve it. For now a good steak wine....but the lack of flesh on the bones will decide its future.
