  • 100% Verdelho. Aged partly in new oak. 12,5% alcohol. Total production 1300 bottles.

Pale whitish-green color. Youthful, slightly primary nose of ripe pear, some floral tones, a little bit of candied ester-driven fermentation character and a hint of vanilla. The wine is fresh, very youthful and quite light in body with flavors of pear drops, some saline minerality, light sour apple candy tones, a little bit of stony minerality, a hint of vanilla and a lactic touch of pear-flavored yogurt. The racy acidity lends great, almost electric feel to the wine, making it come across very fresh and crunchy. The finish is dry, lively and quite lengthy with flavors of tangy salinity, some lemony citrus fruits, a little bit of stony minerality, light candied notes of sour apple candies and pear drops, an incisive hint of cool steel and a touch of vanilla.

A pleasant, balanced and enjoyably acid-driven little white. Nothing too serious, but nothing disappointing either; although the wine is - typical of still Madeirense whites - quite light-bodied, it doesn't feel it is thin or insipid or lacking in substance. I'd say the biggest problem here is the wine's age: the candied fermentation notes still dominate the wine and the oaky notes of vanilla and lactic yogurt character are yet to integrate with the fruit. Still, even with its shortcomings, this was a better wine than the rather bland 2021 Colombo Reserva Arnsburger. Priced according to its quality at 15€.
