  • Saturday, March 25, 2000 Dark straw color with spicy, herbal nose. Full bodied mouthfeel with nice acidic structure delivering spice, herbs, oak and anise. With a wonderful broiled salmon in parsley cream sauce and lemon cream cauliflower while watching ’A perfect Murder’ (starring M. Douglas in a remake of ’Dial M for Murder’) with Deneen 3/25/00.

    Friday, August 11, 2000 As an appertiff, something new for us. Color appears a little darker than it did before with more of a stored straw (as opposed to fresh cut straw) color with a nose of vanilla and anise. Good fruit on the tongue of ripe peach, herbs (basil?) and anise followed by loads of vanilla. After all, this wine is aged sur lie and it does have a yeasty quality that matches well with food. But not as an appertiff. And what is on the back of the palate? Lemon and ...2x4? It does deliver a good mouthfeel with sufficient glycerol. While I usually like this wine for its simplicity, it demands food. 8/11/00.

    Friday, September 01, 2000 consummed at one of Smileys’ Friday deck parties with appetizers. Always a good wine for various foods and when we don’t have the luxury of thinking about what’s in the glass.

    Tuesday, September 12, 2000 this wine is starting to fade and needs to be consummed. Enjoyed this bottle as it had no hint of maderization. Pork Tenderloin.

    Friday, October 27, 2000 As the wine matures and heads downhill, it has a darker color of mature straw, looking more like a chardonnay than semillon. On the nose citrus and apple pie notes are clear, while on the palate melted butter, spice and anise flavors appear with some citrus flavors. With goat cheese, apples and brie. 10/27/00.
    Wednesday, December 06, 2000 a little disjointed. good anise, fennel flavors and glycerol, but also some greeness that was off-putting
    Thursday, February 22, 2001 This semillon continues to darken with age but without any ill effects on the nose or palate. A darker golden color than the previous bottles of this wine. Nose of nuts, vanilla and spice. On the palate the anise, spice and vanilla present themselves followed by the nuttiness first apparent on the nose with a slight hazelnut flavor and finish. This wine is always a pleasure. With homemade (smoked) turkey pot pie with puff pastry and broccoli, raisin and almond salad. 2/22/01. Looking back it appears that this wine has been uneven, perhaps by bottle bariation, perhaps by food pairings.
