A muted nose of oak followed by a medium concentration of strawberry and plum on the palate. It came off as pretty disjointed without any sense that Zinfandel is the primary grape. Anise on the grippy finish left me disappointed that this bottle was not very giving in the plush flavor department. Win some, lose some when cellaring over a decade as I kinda remember liking this when I sampled it before purchase years ago.

Black and blue fruits on the nose, kind of stewed. Not really playing well together. Flavor profile on the palate makes up for the disappointing nose. Dark plum, blackberries and marionberry saturate the tongue. A little fig paste, dark chocolate through the midpalate, and anise on the sharp focused finish. A bit of a brute, but well made.
