As a NV, not sure when it was made, though I purchased it in 2016. This is a pretty good wine and the cellar time may have helped. Had I tasted it blind, I would not have guessed its provenance. Has more depth and structure than I expected. Still going strong on day two and actually improved. Fruit forward, peppery, some vegetal flavors and a little bitter on the finish, but would happily get it again. Stacks up well in the price range against Cali offerings, and that is a very pleasant surprise.

This is a perfectly good example of modern styled new world red wine, and in that style it might be good. But to me it is decidedly overripe, in the sugar sense, if not in terms of the phenols in stems, etc. The nose is clean and pure but raisiny and with way too sweet waves of liquor-like dark fruit. The palate is the same, and also feels too woody. With meat off the grill,or some other pungent heavy fare, maybe this works. Not something I want to drink.

good wine - there is fruit but it is not overblown or extracted, the wine is balanced, and there is even some complexity. well done and should be a lesson for the rest of Strong Island to follow in terms of working with what is given, as opposed to trying to craft something bigger and better out of what is given.

(NV Shinn Estate Vineyards Red Blend Red) A medium-light cherry red in the glass, it offers cherry and red raspberry fruit aromas on the nose with subtle black pepper—from that petit verdot no doubt—and just a little earthiness. No where near as flavorful as it is aromatic, it is light bodied, juicy and a little limp with simple red fruit flavors and just a little pepperiness. A little more body would really help here I think.
