  • Finger Lakes Vacation 2017; 9/4/2017-9/8/2017 (Finger Lakes, New York, USA): Tasted at the winery as part of a Wednesday library wines promotion. Comes in at 1% RS. Very fresh-seeming with green pineapple, tennis ball, and Sweet Tart candies. Medium length. Fun lime zesty finish. Medium(+) acid. Should hold fine for a few years yet. "Very good," 88/100.

  • this was a bit sweet compared to a bottle I had last year, but it could all be in the fruit which is plentiful along with serious chalk like mineral vase and loads of acid. This 2009 Finger Lakes Riesling is showing so well considering age. Searing acidity that hasn't really mellowed. Nice with curried chicken.

  • Open about 30 hours. Interesting to see how much difference a year + makes. The nose has softened from yesterday - it showed more petrol then. Gentle, still showing orchard fruits - peach and apple, some sharp lime and some saline. A bit of minerals and stones. This is clearly more mature on the palate than before - the orchard fruits are softer and more golden, but the lime acid has become more prominent - it's actually sticking out some. Stones, lime and peach pit - this is bitter and I think it is on the way down - the fruit has subsided but the acid is still there. The finish is stronger - but also acid based, with lots of lime, bitter peach pit and some more stone. Drink up. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 4/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 = 13.5/20.

  • A bit of sulphur when opted, but it was fairly quick to blow off. Greenish-gold in the glass, nice nosh of crisp green apple, like Pippin, with some grapefruit and a hint of peach that wasn't quite to the sweetest stage of life and some white florals. On the palate a serious mineral driven acidity, bites in, with the Pippin apple and grapefruit as well on the palate. Nice mineral taste to this like slate, and the finish is nice as well, with mouth puckering acidity that has the fruit and mineral running through the mind as my mouths salivates. Very nice example of Finger Lakes Riesling done really nicely. I wish more examples of this kind of Riesling could get outside the NY state area and into the hands that love a good crisp Riesling to go with some spicy peanut Thai chicken. Just a great example of why I hope we can do a Custom crush for these types of wines to reach the proper hands.

  • 12.6% alcohol, 20 g/l RS, 7.9 g/l acid. Light gold. Bitter nose of stone fruit pit, slate/chalk, stones, lime, white flowers, honey, peach, maybe a whiff of tropical in there somewhere. Delineated, focused, and austere. Maybe a touch of broth from the concentration? Similar on palate - very stony, peach pit, lime, peach. Very dry feeling in the mouth - almost unforgiving. Austere, with good but not superb focus. Excellent acid, drive and concentration. Lime, stone and steel on the finish which shows nice acid and almost a touch of sweetness from the lime. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.
