Like some others, I noted something closed until it breathed and opened up. Then, wow! Spice and orange peel and texture and earthiness and never ending finish. Love this.

This wine surprised us. It was a bit closed the first night. After 24 hours it opened up and was fantastic. Black and blue fruits. Some earthiness, minerality. If I was drinking this blind I would have gone to Bordeaux or 20yr old Napa.

Deep ruby color. A rich aroma of black raspberry and currants. Long legs. A slight tightness out of the gate, but the richness continues (as expected) on the palate. Decanted for an hour, after which the nose was brighter and naturally initial tightness had softened. There were some pepper/spice notes, especially with food. Really quite impressive, albeit it a tad pricier these days, for a Bordeaux-style blend out of Virginia. This was definitely a treat, and I highly recommend giving RdV a try if you have the chance.

Tasting today at RdV. This wine is developing well. Very smooth. Peppery and long finish. Dark fruit and balanced tannins. I really like the ‘13 and ‘14. First time trying the ‘09. If you know RdV, this is classic RdV.

Started off ripe and fruity with a bit of glycerol warmth. But with air the bit of glycerol warmth became the primary characteristic. $94 at CDC.
