  • Fruit is fading but the beautiful nose makes it well worth the effort. Past time for peak drinking.

  • Showing some age but still a beautiful wine. Medium ruby color with some browning, a bit of an earthy nose with nice but fading cherry hints in the bouquet. Smooth and still balanced, with a nice lingering finish.

  • Served blind
Medium light ruby black to the rim
    Light smoky cherry aromas
    Dusty dry cherry flavors
Lowish alcohol and light but balanced acidity
    With a dry dusty finish
Definitely a food wine; not a sipper.
I initially mistook this for a rustic Nuits or Gevrey excepting for the lowish acidity.
My first experience with this wine, I would consider holding at the risk of it drying out further

  • Still very good, a Rioja classic. Drink now.

  • Purchased a case for 10/b 4.5 years ago from a local independent. The WE92 for a Rioja Rsrva at that price probably got my attention, though WE ratings trend generous. This wine is developing well. Color: dark purple to the edge; Nose: mature fruit, some leather; Body: rich and round, mature red fruit; Finish: lingers for 10+ seconds. Glad I bought a case and continue to enjoy; expect it to last at least another 2 years. My storage conditions: Stored horizontally in dark basement with 50-55 humidity; corks do well, though I've had a few break on older bottles stored 10+ years closer to the dehumidifier. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I consider this '07 Vina Eguia to be notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.
