  Still somewhat hot. I was hoping that the alcohol would dissipate a bit and blow off much quicker this time around. Oh well, still a tasty bottle and solid QPR, but probably not going to get much better than it is right now, which to me is a 90.

  The wine is a light to medium ruby color, much lighter at the edge. The very interesting and unique nose has raspberries, earthy underbrush, black pepper, dried herbs, baking spices, smoke, licorice, cherries, and a touch of eucalyptus. This has medium body with fairly solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. On the palate a nice hit of cherry and raspberry precedes a blast of savory elements including black pepper, dried herbs, and nice earthy notes. The finish is fairly long and leans towards the savory spectrum with nice cherry and raspberry in the background adding subtle sweetness. Not a fruit forward, fruit bomb, very food friendly. I like this a lot and feel it should last in the cellar for another year, maybe two.

  9/29's observation of this being similar to (Oregonian) pinot noir is right on; it's just that I really dig it while others may only want expressions of grenache in the style of southern France or Spain. Who'da thunk California would provide the most delicate exemplar of a varietal? Anyhow, it remains terrific, and far from being old and tired five years after vintage, this bottle was still really strong on day four. I believe it's smack dab in the middle of its prime. Of other cases I've bought, I often wish I'd stopped at six; this, I'll miss when it's gone. I'd probably buy more Siduri/Novy if their east coast shipping weren't so expensive!
