We had just plowed through a 2012 Clos Pepe Pinot, but my wife wanted more (get your head out of the gutter), so I grabbed this. I bought 6 of these many years ago, and this was the last bottle. Fairly light, and certainly translucent in the glass with Bing Cherry, a bit of smoke, and verve. The palate followed suit with a bit of eucalyptus and a searing tartness. Just short of a whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

The penultimate bottle, and this is on par with the others--beautiful nose of boysenberry pie, vanilla, and spice. The palate is even more tantalizing with luscious, yet restrained fruit, plenty of depth, a nice tartness on the mid palate, and a lengthy finish. I bought this wine once I discovered that the winemaker was Ehren Jordan, owner of Failla Wines and former winemaker at Turley Wine Cellars. Smart move. A dozen years out and this could easily be mistaken for a current release. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Alright, faith restored. I have decided that I will no longer talk about that first bottle, as this is yet another stellar bottle. I will even go further—this is the perfect example of why I hold onto wine. Black raspberry fruit, eucalyptus, and some mint on the nose, and on the palate? Whoa. Rich and beautiful with blackberry and bramble, that mint shows up briefly, but the tannins are integrated and this is simply luscious. Whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

Phew. Before I popped this bottle, I actually read my previous notes on the wine (which is as about as rare as going through a whole day with no wine…), and I was worried—one bottle was a stinker, the other was awesome. Well, I am happy to report that this was much more the latter than the former! A fantastic wine that is drinking beautifully. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com
