  Deep gold. Intensely sweet attack of very ripe citrus. Still quite primary, with lemon, apricot, and honey. Very long finish of honey with a healthy dose of acidity.

  A powerhouse. Layers of ripe tropical and citrus fruits, high toned spicy elements and a rich honeyed character, all conveyed with incredible power and palate-staining intensity though there's also plenty of acidity keeping this very bright and lively. Absolutely delicious stuff, with great balance, vibrancy and the half-bottle disappearing remarkably quickly.

  NB: failed cork, as in froze up on the bottle and crumbled during extraction. Deep color as in BA, with attendant burnished apricot flavors. Wonderfully developed, when I thought it would be years from readiness.

  Well it was about 3 years since I touched one of these. The last one was a little off-form, so I left my bottles alone for a bit. This one came out of hibernation with a vengeance. Mindblowing acidity sets a razor-sharp frame for the ton of honeyed fruit, pears, green apples, and baking spices. Whooo-hooo! The finish on this is way over a minute. Dazzling mouthfeel with obvious density and weight that paradoxically seems to float across the tongue. One of the tasters tonight was a German wine importer - he was awestruck. It should be noted that this wine proudly wears its botrytis. Less experienced tasters might mistake this for a wine that is prematurely aged (particularly the golden color) - but that would be a big mistake - this one has a lifetime ahead of it longer than most of us do. Sensational yet again.

  The STG and Me take on 2001 Bordeaux (Susan's House, Seattle, WA): My third time with this wine and my first (relative) disappointment. The prior two bottles rated 100 points from me. This one has the great acidity that this wine has always shown, but lacked a bit of the focus that I've come to expect. Still mouthfilling and honeyed, but not as precise as prior bottles. I think I'll hold other bottles for awhile and see if this is a phase, which I believe it is.
