    COLOR: Medium translucent straw
NOTE: Oily, anise and jasmine driven nose. Kind of weird. Mouth has a nice medium opulence to it, but I'm still struggling to figure out what/where the fruit is. It doesn't seem tired, it just seems like this thing doesn't want to tell me. After enough sips my nasal and retronasal cavities are picking up some pungent dried California apricots. Not the sweet Turkish kind, the more sour Cali kind. The finish picks up a bit of cream and this becomes a sort of apricot-cream marmalade that turns a bit yeasty in the 20+ sec finish. Interesting, but I've enjoyed California pure Viogniers from Denner far more than this. It was good to try, and now I've had a few Condrieus. Unless anyone has some recommendations (besides Guigal's Blanc Ex Voto) I think I'll just stick with my preferred (and usually less expensive) Cali Viognier/Rhone white cuvees, especially from the Paso Robles region.

(CONDRIEU Vernay L?E) Friday SPECIAL Dear Friends, I'm off to visit an old cellar deep in the catacombs of one of our more historic cities - I will report back on what I've found (1730 Lafite anyone?). For now, we will have to occupy ourselves with some top Friday specials - all at or below the cellar door price. There are some terrific deals below so take note. As with all the Friday lists, please be patient with Niki - she will do her best to allocate... Have a great weekend everyone. All below have exceptional provenance and have been perfectly cellared since release. 2006 Holloran "Chehalem Mt." Dry Riesling STRICT LIMIT 3/person From 30-40 year old Riesling vines, the Holloran will really shock you. If the Spatlese from this morning is too sweet for your taste, this is made in a very dry style - it is the thinking man's domestic Alsatian-like Riesling. A showcase of what can be done with Oregon's unique terroir. 2005 George Vernay Cotes-du-Rhone "St. Agathe" STRICT LIMIT 3/person 2004 George Vernay Cote-Rotie "Maison Rouge" STRICT LIMIT 3/person (this is not the lower priced "Blonde de Seigneur" - this is the real Maison Rouge) Think 2004 was only "decent" in Cote Rotie? Try this. One of the more elegant and cerebral examples of the genre you will find. A real knock-out in this pure terroir style - something tells me many of you will find this to be ravishing versus the more tough and tannic 2005: Searcher: $70.01 2005 George Vernay Condrieu "L'Enfer" STRICT LIMIT 3/person Another gorgeous example that would run circles around many of the world's top white wines. The feminine touch has become more than apparent in the Vernay wines as the daughter shows her hand in the winemaking (a young Rhone Leroy?). You are going to hear a lot about this winery in the near future... 2006 George Vernay Condrieu Terrasses de l'Empire STRICT LIMIT 2/person Cut and paste comments above and add..."they did really well in 2006"... 2004 Servin Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchots" (BH92) STRICT LIMIT 2/person I should probably just keep these for my cellar but it is showing really well at the moment so that would be quite selfish. We don't have much so please be patient here. I believe may of you will prefer this to most of the 2005s you've tasted. 2004 Carver-Sutro Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard STRICT LIMIT 3/person Go ahead and throw your hat in the ring but please not yell at Nicki if we are sold out of this - she will do her best to spread it around. A crazy price on a perfect parcel: Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA OR9350 Rhone8841 Rhone8842 Rhone8843 Rhone8844 Burg5490 CA9120
