It was just such an event that was focused on wines of the Loire Valley, specifically in and around the village of Sancerre, and some wonderful Sauvignon Blanc wines produced in that region, Menetou-Salon, Quincy, Reuilly, Touraine, Pouilly-Fumé, and others represented.
Since I couldn’t buy six wines and drink them all, maybe my trusty Coravin would have worked, I decided to buy one so as to become one with the panel. I chose the
Domaine des Corbillières Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2018
In retrospect, I might have chosen the Pouilly-Fumé as it was a wine I was familiar with, but this was a time to be bold and go with something new! I choose well.
From the middle Loire Valley, and from a region not as heavily invested in Sauvignon Blanc as some of the others mentioned, the wine was very enjoyable and a great value. Aromas that bring to mind citrus, a lemony quality, and a touch of minerality, it proceeds to provide a crisp background with only a modest grapefruit touch leaning more towards those lemony qualities. A slight grassiness along with taught minerality leads the wine to its refreshing and pleasant finish.
Right around $15, this is a wonderful wine, especially if you’re planning a light meal or any seafood or shellfish dish.
Cheers

ROH Piazza Restaurant (Agrippina - Handel). Limited notes. Typical Sauvignon in the leaner citrus and green herb French style. Touch of minerality and bone dry. Good horse for a fish course (or two) if not particularly memorable. For drinking young.
