  • Medium weight with its age showing in the wine coloration. Quite austere and dry. Very old world with some funk at the outset that blows away after an hour. Not memorable.

  • Prior bottle was nearly 11 months ago and more notes were broadly consistent. Dried red cherry, red berries, earth and light spices on the nose. Medium bodied with mostly open and rounded red cherry upfront with a hint of brighter red berries. Mid-body continues to show good density and nice red cherry notes. Backside continues to show tart red cherry, some structural tannins and and a touch of acidity. There's enough structure to bridge the transition from mid-body to finish and leave the wine feeling complete. This wine has come a long way from it's very tight, very tannic early years. It never quite delivered on the complexity I'd hoped, but for the price paid, still represents solid value. Still needs about four hours open to show its best, but has a few years left in front of it at this level.

  • Prior bottle was a bit over two years ago and it continues to evolve positively. Nose was quite similar to my prior bottle with red berry, red cherry and the combination of earth and spices on the nose. Medium bodied now with the same red berry and red cherry notes upfront. Still has a touch of brightness, but in general, feels pleasantly rounded and open. Mid-body has good density, but the difference isn't quite as apparent as it was previously. Backside shows tart red cherry as well as acidity and tannic structure that both continue to show better balance. Finishes with earth and spices as well as some tannin-derived drying notes. Compared to where this wine was four or six years ago, it has made real strides, justifying the seemingly high initial score I gave it (absolutely scored on perceived potential at those stages). The balance and openness that this wine has developed serve it well, even if they can't place it into the ranks of the best from this vintage. It never did and never will live up to some of the professional critics initial high scores. That said, with this time, it has developed into and enjoyable wine that still has life ahead of it. I will save my last bottle for Summer 2021.

  • Medium light weight. Shows aging coloration. Mixed fruits with red raspberry and sour cherry prevalent. Sour notes from mid palate to the finish faded some after an hour. Not a memorable wine.
