Tasted blindfolded. Nose of sweet cherry jolly rancher with a bit of oak spice and nothing else. Medium bodied, medium high acidity, dry, and not much going on. Red cherries and a bit of leather. A huge wall of tannins. Short finish of saline and a bit of gravel. Would be an acceptable table wine. I am guessing that this is some sort of cheap chianti or other Italian red.
Blindfold off. Wine is a medium-dark ruby with a little bit of garnet tones. Seems to be gaining a bit more complexity with air, but not enough to save it.
The Reveal: 2020 Villa Cerrina Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. $5.99 at Trader Joe’s. Nothing wrong with this wine, but not much to get excited about. Totally falls into the Table Wine category for me. Going to put the cork back in and see how it evolves overnight.
Day 2: Nose fell apart, but the palate evolved a bit. I think I enjoyed this the first day better.

Simple wine that hits the right notes for a pasta dinner with a bright vodka sauce with sausage.
