I can see why many like this wine. There is lots of good stuff going on here. The color is honey golden. The nose has lychee meets honeyed peach and pear. There is a spicy, sugared minerality to the fruit as it enters the palate. Typical Riesling viscosity. Unfortunately the fruit is not all that intense, though very correct. We get honeyed peach and lychee with a touch of rhubarb. Quite civilized acid kicks in after you enjoy the fruit. There is very hard for me to describe lingering herbal aftertaste that affects the score. The finish has a touch of diesel, but mostly honeyed fruit.

The wine is a very light straw color with some yellow highlights. The nose smells like a tropical fruit salad with honey dipped apples, orange blossoms, pineapple, lime zest, grapefruit, minerals, and a nice floral note. This has medium body, decent acidity, and nice residual sweetness. On the palate the apples, honey, and lime zest kick off the show with minerals and a touch of mouthwatering grapefruit coming in on the back end. The finish has nice length and closes with some nice lime and good sweetness. This would work well with spicy food, but would shine on its own on a warm evening.

Lots of spice on the nose that adds complexity to the fruit. Not a whole lot of RS on the palate, which I like. The finish has a really nice pop of acidity that rises up after swallowing, adding lots of length to the finish. There is a little heat on the palate, which is somewhat atypical from what I expected but it's not too distracting. Nice wine, and excellent with food.

Lemongrass and peaches on the nose, hints of butterscotch and a short, pleasant finish. Peach and a little bit of petroleum from start to finish. Good enough for the price that we bought two more bottles!

(Wente Vineyards Riesling Riverbank Arroyo Seco) Light lemon yellow color; appealing, ripe peach, ripe Bartlett pear nose; tasty, ripe Bartlett pear, ripe peach, mineral palate with good acidity to leaven the sweetness; medium finish 90+ points (reminiscent of a Mosel kabinett from a ripe year; 12.5% alcohol; sample provided by winery)
