Such a spicy little wine - loads of mace alongside molasses, dried apricot, marzipan, raisin, and sweet pastry. So beautifully balanced. Quite sophisticated. It is drinking gloriously now.

Decades of 6 (67 Pall Mall, London): This arrived after a logn wine evening and in the footsteps of the amazing 1963 Croft ( Papies 96) so it was difficult for it to compete. 3 years since we had this by the glass (Papies 91) and in this case was just very much on the volatile acidity. Nutty, caramel. A bit on the rough side at this stage or at least for the palate after a long wine set. Will not rate as we feel it might be unfair to the wine.

By the glass at Noble Rot, London. Coravin. This was Madeira to us when we tried this blind, Sercial Madeira all the way. Fully oxidative, nutty, light caramel. Very good madeira eee Marsala.. 91

A private dinner (Restaurant Semilla *, Brooklyn, NYC, USA): Lively amber gold; intense and detailed nose, candied fruit and nuts, slightly salty but still fresh and mineral; the palate is medium dry, concentrated but elegant, salty wood but supple and well balanced, sappy, hints of caramel and vanilla; wonderful resonance and purity on the finish, excellent length.

Very intense nose: oxidative character, empyromatic
Rich, yet elegant, long, Not sweet, some astringency.
Not subtle, but somehow it balances out
