Delicate and balanced while still very expressive and suave. Reminds me of 2001 Bordeaux. Wonderful red that showcases what Michigan is capable of. No hard edges and no over ripe funk.

Wet earth, leather with some hints of pollen on the nose. Leading to a similar palate with bits of cocoa. This is very nice and tannin has folded in nicely. This is unfurled and drinking fully at its peak and would drink over the next few years.

Tasted at the winery. 5th time I have had this but 1st time from bottle. It has come together very nicely. Smooth texture and feminine in style. The tannins have softened. Notes of wet earth, red currant and cassis. 89-90 points.

Another Wyncroft Winery Visit; 7/5/2017-7/6/2017 (Pullman, Michigan): 5th barrel sample of this wine I have had. 2013 was an average year weather wise in SW michigan. This is an earlier drinking Shou. Bright and fruitier than most of the other vintage of this wine that I have had. Solid acidity. Notes of berries and currants. Lingering finish. 88-89 points.

2015 Wyncroft Winery Visit (Michigan) (7 potentially 90+ wines with 1 classic 95 pointer); 8/29/2015-9/1/2015 (Wyncroft Winery, South Haven, Michigan): Barrel sample of a cross section of all varietals in this blend. The final blend will be about 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. This combined smaple was rounder and more complete than the 2 separate samples. A perfumed wine. Bright and fresh on the palate. Notes of brambly fruit, light oak and some green pepper on the finish. This last descriptor will hopefully resolve. 2 of the 7 barrels in this cuvee spent 9 months in new French oak. 87-91 points.
