Color: a garnet with hints of brick on the edges Nose: generous. lots of dry flower petals - dark, violet, red rose. Something meaty, blood, iron, mallard reaction. Black fruit hints. Whiffs of horseradish, licorice. There is something green. Changes a lot with time in the glass Palate: fully integrated, medium acidity, medium-light body. Prevalence of dry flowers and black fruit, tomato concentrate. Super umani, salty, shows rigor. Some oxidized apple caps it all Finish: medium-long
The fruit is muted even after a while of air, but the wine is vigorous, flowers and metal at play and a fruit profile that does say California

Garnet core, just a hint of orange on the red brick rim. Lots of berry aromas, nice top notes of strawberry and pine forest, deeper notes of spice and pan drippings too. This is starting to show some age, but the fruit is still intense through the finish. Tannins are probably resolved and not going to get much smoother, deep velvety texture on the midpalate, a touch rustic on the finish, but full of spice and tart fruit. I love its sprezzatura! Savory enough to compare to Burgundy, but the intense fruitiness is very Cali. Lovely and worth following for another 10 years or more.

A bit big and clumsy - opened at 11 am for 1pm meal - tasted better at 5pm but other than the signature hirsch fruit, slightly hot on the palate, nice finish but not elegant and lovely as others who make wine from their fruit ... thinking it's a really foolish business model to take the contracts from other wineries who do such a lovely job with hirsch fruit and put all eggs in one basket. Guessing littorai or selyem '09 are singing right now and this is just - meh

This was in a perfect spot. The reserves benefit from cellar time and this was one of the best I have had.
