Decanted for about 2 hours. Was very hot before sitting. Cork broke up on removal and was almost fully saturated. Herbal notes of thyme. Leather. A little mustiness or mushroom character, but blended in well. Tannins very pleasantly light.

A bit of brown peeking through the magenta. Mushrooms, earth and wooden nose. Medium bodied, a fair amount of sediment, then...fresh red cherries, herbs, fully resolved tannins, a bit of leather, and a medium to long semi-sweet finish. Excellent once the funk blew off; this had many years left to go.

Purchased on release for $13. Leafy, earthy, peaty nose, with a trace of eucalyptus. Black currant flavors are overshadowed by tobacco, soy and espresso notes. Slightly bitter on the finish, but somehow the whole wine seemed better than its component parts. It actually paired pretty well with the grilled NY Strip Steak we had for dinner. Drink up.

Tastes a bit alcoholy probably because we are past the consumption year of 2005.
