  • My last bottle. Delicious, fruit-forward wine that went well with pizza. Loads of complexity. Silky texture. Excellent balance of fruit, tannins, oak, and acidity.

  • My second to last bottle of this wine. My last note (see 5/20/15) describes my observations of this wine on its own. Tonight, I opened a bottle to accompany pizza. Well, it could not have been a better pairing. The juicy fruit and acidity were accentuated by the food. This wine seemed in excellent balance tonight. 60% Shiraz, 40% Mataro (Aussie for Syrah and Mourvedre). Delicious, silky, and smoky.

  • I haven't opened one of these in over four years. Nearly opaque purple with a garnet rim. Nose of leather, dark fruit, smoke and vanilla. Ripe, full palate of blackberry, black cherry, plum, prune, black licorice, and vanilla. Excellent length. Nice acidity. Silky texture. The high alcohol is barely noticeable. The oak has mostly integrated. The sweet tannins have lost some grip over time. This is tasty wine, if a bit heavily extracted for some tastes. I doubt it will get much better with more cellar time. But I guess I'll find out.

  • It is at it's drinking peak. Big, lush smooth with a touch of pleasant heat. Black cherries and plum flavours with the tannins all but evaporated.

  • 60% Shiraz and 40% Mataro. Pop & pour and it does not need long to show up beautifully. Perfume nose of barnyard, leather, blackcurrant, cherry, plum and spice. Complex and savoury palate, balance structure and showing blackcurrant, cherry, sour plum, mineral and sweet barnyard notes. Finishes long with hints of spice and a soft grip. 16.5% Alc is brilliantly control and elegant, world apart from the Kaesler Avignon 2006 tasted few days back.
