PnP and consumed over a couple of hours Still performing well with a tertiary profile. Some nuances of fruit but with more developed and funky notes intertwined. Cork came out clean with a butlers theif and wine was clean and vibrant coloured when poured carefully with plenty of very fine sediment for the final ~50cl poured away Drink over the short term as I don't see much to be gained from keeping this much longer

Mainly Pinot — work folk tasting/social (Home): 12/12. These have provided lovely drinking since first broaching the case a decade ago. Smooth, floral, sousbois. Undemanding pleasure. Time to think about moving on to the 1ers. ***1/2

after getting a case of this on release for about $18 each, i went through almost all of it in the first five or so years i had it. i kept one bottle back, and tonight decided to pull the cork. By far a surprise to the upside, this wine has the structure to hold up for several more years. I wish i had more of these. Unlike some of the higher class '99's I've tried, it has focus, with some attractive spicy cherry notes. If you have these and they are well stored you're in for a treat.

89-90; Actually kind of liked the strong earth tones and wet forest floor, ferns, dry chalky tannins; this needs to be drank up, but still holding on if you like this style.

(Potel Nicolas Volnay Vieilles Vignes) Medium-plus ruby red. The nose is a real stunner; full of individual red berries - redcurrant and cranberry. The palate has an understated entry which starts narrow, opening wider as you move along with the acidity into the mid-palate. Silken with well covered tannins and a nice length. Wonderful villages despite the short note!
(Potel Nicolas Volnay Vieilles Vignes) I've one superb and one really good Potel 1er Cru from Potel in 99 (Clos des Chênes and En Chevret), time to see how the villages is getting on. Medium-plus ruby-red colour to a watery rim. The nose is dominated at the start by toasty oak - unusual for a Potel wine - though slowly this goes through a caramel stage before it majors on the fruit: beautiful, clear red berries before becoming rather indistinct. Fresh and quite intense though I think there is still rather a lot of oak on the palate where it's the most likely the source of those grainy tannins. There's plenty of material here but I'm not 100% sure it will eventually overcome the 'muddying' effect of the wood - after-all it's already 4 years since release. Still, however, I managed to enjoy it to the last drop.

Drank straight from cellar. Colour good but muted on nose and palate. Either not the best bottle or I treated it badly
