Incredible. Earthy dusty nose. Imagine smelling the bottom of a shoe after walking down a dusty road and having stepped on over ripened cranberries. Then hot black pepper, cardboard tannins. Slow swish in mouth is best. Nice gripping finish. Drink with food. Would be 95-96 if not as hot.

Vintage Chianti Tasting at Tolani (Tolani): The nose opened up with ginger spice cookie, roasted sausage and potpourri with a mineral bass note that made this all at once savory, fruity and earthy. On the palate, I found lush black fruits that were spicy with a hint of black pepper leading to a dark soil note on the slightly tannic finish. I hope to be able to taste this again in a few years.

Pre-2000 Chiantis at Tolani (Tolani Restaurant, NYC): Earthy, spicy and minerally on the nose, with elements of pencil lead and anise. Delicate black fruits and stone on the palate with tannic grip at the finish.
NB: this wine is from Cervignano di Montepulciano, as noted on the bottle.
