Classic Giaconda shiraz. Intense, dark fruits on both nose and palate. Showing some Devt. but a long future ahead of it. Long flavours. Elegant. A lovely wine.

Cork. Still a bit reductive, but this blows off over an hour. This is a really complex, savoury shiraz that treads the line between intensity, concentration and elegance. The fruit profile is dark and ripe, but if anything, plays a supportive role to the smoke, coal, bloody meat, black olive, leather, floral characters and spice flavours, which really shine through. This is ball of energy on the palate - with great acid delineation and refined tannins - it's only 13% alc! Good length and an almost quinine-like bitterness on the finish. This has a great life ahead of it. As much as I appreciate the Giaconda Chardonnays, I wonder whether the Shiraz's are not the pick of the bunch. I'm sure this will continue to improve over the next 5-10 years and should be good for another 5-10 after that.
A highly expressive nose of violets and graphite, with a wild briar character. This is the first Giaconda Shiraz with a small Viognier component - which adds an interesting extra dimension. It has an elegant structure but still retains it's latent power. An ethereal palate and refined tannins. Only the second release of the Estate Shiraz, it is showing great promise and has developed outstanding depth while still holding great refinement. RICK KINZBRUNNER
