  • I was told this was a '95 Pernot Batard Montrachet. The colour was about right -- advanced gold, but I was definitely surprised by the amount of rich tropical fruit and pina colada on the nose -- no signs of oxidation there. The palate lacked the oomph that I'd expect, and I thought that this was surprisingly fresh and fruity for a '95 Batard. Would have likely pegged it for a much fatter vintage, like '02. A good dose of acidity, but the palate didn't quite deliver the interest that the nose did. The oak peeks through just a bit too, giving this a fatty texture.

  • Arrggghhh! Color is slightly dark. Nose is a touch off... Taste shows light oxidation. Cork looked very good. But the wine falls short of what it should be. Still very pleasant but...damn, I was really looking forward to a more spectacular bottle.

  • Lovely peach and melon nose and color. Taste begins with mouth feel and balance which are spot on. Then peaches/stone fruit and melon followed by a touch of oak, minerality, vanilla, cream, and acid. This really pushes my buttons in the right way. Food friendly. Sophisticated. Really nice. Drinking very nicely right now. This bottle was from Domaine Serene's cellars and only received in November.

  • Tasted at Domaine Serene. Wow! This sample was superb. Much better than the other reviews here and on WS. I thought this was near perfect. Light oak. Lovely, round, smooth nose and flavour. Great balance. Reminded me of the Chassagne-Montrachet we tasted and drank in Burgundy in May.

  • Ripe yellow apple, Meyer lemon, nectarine, green plum, and white vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel with good acidity. Medium-plus length ripe, spicy pear finish. Riper and more New World in style than the 2007 Cote Sud - I think that's more reflective of the vintage rather than the vineyard. All in all, though, very well-balanced - very nice acidity, not overly buttery, and the oak is kept in check and nicely integrated. Nice to know that it doesn't just take a cool vintage for the folks at Serene to make an elegant, food-friendly Chardonnay.
