  • Second wine of Château Labégorce. Drank for Dad's birthday dinner. Drinkable but not really nice. This had a modern Bordeaux nose that could almost confused for a reserved new world. There were certainly shadings of Margaux though, with sweet red fruit, flowers, bramble and vanillin oak. Just a bit of green was hovering around the edges. Thankfully palate did not share that green streak. It was lightish, certainly second wine-ish, and would not have been able to take it. What I got was some bright sweet red fruit and cassis - all rather thin on the ground. Some savoury earth, vine stemmy bramble and a little spike of heat made up the rest of the wine. Simple stuff, balance was a bit off. It was drinking ok, but not standard was not all that great really. I realise this tasting note reads in a rather disjointed fashion - probably because the wine was a little out of joint as well!
