A bit off an off showing, relative to past bottles. The 6-hour slow-ox was apparently inadequate. A powerful nose of black fruit, herbs and menthol. Concentrated and chewy, with additional notes of sage and rosemary emerging on the palate. The wine came off as a bit unyielding and monolithic, lacking its typical freshness and glycerined texture, I am afraid.

I do not know how much carignan(o) this vintage included, but it must surely have been more than the few percentages indicated in articles I found on the web.
Somebody once wrote in LRVF that carignan is the only variety that renders the winedrinker sad. Well, for me that is true; I really have a problem with carignan and in this bottle the corresponding taste dominated. No trace of any cannonau-driven fruit.
For the rest, the wine is still young, full-bodied and probably not bad. If you like carignan that is.

Some Priorat Giants, Plus a Bonus Wine to Boot (A Pristine Outdoor Setting Somewhere in Los Olivos): A perfect "nightcap" kind of complement to the dazzling array of Priorat giants which preceded it. I was glad to finish with a mono-varietal, actually. Bottle age has served this wine well, and it has come into its own, though it will hold for many years. Nose of herbs and menthol. The palate was rich, chewy and spice-driven. Additional notes of sage, rosemary and cherry. The wine really coats the mouth, with a glycerined texture i found refreshing. Very long, expansive finish.

2006 Retrospective (Central Coast, CA): My first of the vintage. Not a very representative Turriga, but super-interesting in its own right, and delicious. Nose of herbs and mild menthol. More of the same on the palate, chewy and spice-driven. Additional notes of sage, rosemary and cherry. Very long, expansive finish. Real upside from here.

Awesom. Full body, brutal tanins, no acid. Ruby and dark.
