Compared very well to a lovely Hermitage. Initially the difference between the two was huge. The Hermitage was total prune and earth, compared to red fruits with the Tor. But this wine opened up and gained more earthiness with time.

Bevan Cellars Comes to NYC (Triomphe): I'm a huge fan of TRB's wines, but this one is not my favorite. It starts out really nicely but I don't get the sense that they left this one alone to express the fruit (as I've come to expect). Biggish, but not massive, you get some nice aromas of blackberries, espresso, pepper and the evening's first appearance of bacon fat. Good so far, but there is something troubling about the sweet, tart acidity. I usually like a little grapefruit, but this was not that. Not a bad wine by any means and maybe the wine just needs some bottle time to integrate better. My instinct is to give Thomas the benefit of the doubt.
