With some age, actually not as overtly modern as expected. Don’t get me wrong, a bit darker, larger and meaty than classic, but with age this offers good mature secondary flavors and a mellow yet enjoyable mouthfeel.

Disappointing wine. Dark, brooding and not very interesting. Muddy flavors of chocolate and coffee and black fruits with very little Sangiovese character or much character at all. Decanted and drunk over a 3 hour period.

At BICE with the gang from work; lovely and perfectly ripe cherry and red currant, earth and rhubarb, a bit of tobacco; well matched acidity and integrated tannins; i barely notice the oak; this has that mix of good fruit going thru the mid palate, but also some tertiary notes and a lightness. This is why i love brunello.

sweet/tart cherry and blackberry that opens up over the first hour; medium bodied with excellent fruit density and persistence; nicely balanced with good earth/leather/acidity in the background

Not sure if this has closed down, but not as good as a bottle two years ago, which I didn't rate but would now give a 95. Even so I always felt this wine was made in too modern a style, too extracted, or perhaps had some cabernet or merlot thrown into the mix, as it didn't seem to exhibit pure sangiovese qualities, albeit it was still very delicious. Tonight's bottle however was a bit mute on the nose and palate, and didn't open up even after three hours. Perhaps I should have decanted it however. I will hold off on my last bottle for a few years and see where this goes.
