  • Excellent, beautiful, Cline creation! The deepest, darkest of reds, wonderful, promising nose, delicious balance, a full-on Syrah experience. Great winemaking by Cline's team. This wine aged well, and will continue to hold for years.

  • Opened this 13 year old just to drink and later have with Mexican food. For a $12 bottle back in 07 or 08 I wasn't expecting much. To my surprise, it was velvety, strike that, cashmere like, on the tongue, it has aged well, the color is deep ruby, with a strong Syrah grape nose. There is a wonderful balance of acidity and fruit giving this wine a very pleasant feel and flavor. There is a hint of teak on the back of the toungue with a strong presence of cherries. Instead of Mexican I find myself thinking of prime rib and yes, BBQ'd rack of lamb. Sorry to say only had one bottle as it still has staying power.

  • It's been a long day, amongst the things I've accomplished are the household finances and the recording of 23 new videos for my YouTube Channel ... so I feel I need a drink. I decided to dig through a box of "hold 'em" wines and found this bottle of 2006 Cline Syrah. Now if memory serves I paid $12.95 for this bottle back when I bought it, and it's always interesting to find out how those bargain bottles are aging. Nose is initially smoky with raspberry notes ... so far pretty impressive. As it opens there's a peppery-ness that creeps into the aromas and maybe a touch of smoked meat ... then again maybe I'm just hungry. On the palate there's a oaky-spiciness and also some fruit coming out as dried and peppered-raspberry ... all in all it's quite smooth and that bite from the spice and pepper doesn't get in the way of a pleasant drinking wine ... now if that oak will just hold off getting in the way it'll be a good wine to continue drinking. Half and hour in and it looks like it is dissipating ... nice bottle of under-$13 ... my patience on this one has turned into a virtue.

  • Cracked pepper notes on the nose and a touch of heat. In the mouth it is all soft fruit but lacks a bit of freshness to keep it interesting.

  • £10 in England for a decent US wine is unheard of, which makes this wine remarkable. Drank over 2 days - nice deep nose, slightly sweet and notes of chocolate and rasberry on the first day - low tannins but good structure if a little mouth filling. Day 2 this was much more relaxed and elegant - good classical Syrah notes - some blood and iron on the nose - drinking really well now and gives a nice indication of a mix between northern and southern rhone - the peppery flavours of the north and the richness of the south. It does have a slight whack of sweetness that is too much on the back palate - . It has a branded wine after taste with caramel, burnt rubber and sugar. This for me disatracts from the other qualities of this wine.

Given the aftertaste I would say drink now - it needs to be fresh and straight out of the bottle.
