Wines and friends with lovely little Adira, and Seth and Keshet; chez them: Well-bricked blood. There was an initial ferocious, snagglepuss, volatility on the nose that was killing me and needed to blow off, godawful -- then it did. Now quite perfumed (and it became more>more>more perfumed the longer it stayed open; glorious, huge tobacco gorgeousness!) with mulberry compote, tar, licorice. Really freaking nice, wow... The palate is resolved, sweet, lovely; candied, lifted '78 fruit, very classic there, for sure; cherry and red berries of your choice. Decent length, but that's about it, no need to overstate it all. Really nice, classic wine. Drink. (my wine) (Edit: Seth is correct -- this is Sonoma Valley designated, not Sonoma County. I didn't notice this when I entered my note.)

"Sonoma Valley" designation. Murky red-garnet color, well-bricked. Mature nose of leather, olives, red cherry, basil, mint. Negligible tannin, low acidity. A little flat-bodied on entry, with plenty of plump cherry, olives, tobacco leaf, and mixed herb flavors to reward the taster. Finish is round and olive-laden. From magnum.

Opened by the very nice George K. The wine fill was very high and the cork was saturated only 1/5. Upon opening, the wine showed bright red fruits. THe color on this baby was intense purple with only very little bricking. While the initial smell was red fruit, the palate was very lush dark fruit. Everytime we poured another taste, the profile changed. It became more dark and the leather, tobacco were present. The storage has been stellar for this wine which might have been the reason why it showed this well but this was definitely a fantastic wine from Sonoma County with plenty of fruit left. The only weak spot was the back palate....was slightly dry.

Had a rich nose of cherries and chocolate which led to rich, cherry fruit on the plate with subtle hints of wood and tannin, medium/long finish but still 2 years from its peak. My #3 and Group #4.
