  • A mystery wine drunk blind by 9 other people against my offer of $20 to anyone who gets within 200 miles where the wine is made. No one was within 1,000 miles. I bought this at te winery a few years ago and Mrs. Frank (Konstantin's widow) was there. They said this was produced by pruning back the clusters to only one per major vine so that they would ripen. There's no way that you should be able to make a cab in the finger lakes - not enough days of sun. This was a solid red cabernet of a style between Bordeaux and California. Tanins were all gone and acid had already followed them out the door so that this was just about at the top of the drinking window, I guess. Red fruit and extracted grape with a bit of coffee. Flavors and palate were a bit muted. This qualifies as the low end of "very good," which is remarkable for a red wine made in that climate.
