  • Meh – fairly enthusiastic two years ago, not so much anymore. Perfectly OK, but the fruit struggles hard to keep up with the oak and tannins. Needs food! Confirms my growing suspicion that Barolo is a no go if you only got $50 to spend.

  • Decanted for two hours before tasting. Deep garnet core, slightly bricking rim. Beautiful nose with hints of cherries, roses, nuts, marzipan, cedar-wood and caramel. Refreshing and well balanced palate. Finishes off with young and slightly drying tannins. Not quite as impressed as Decanter, but still among the best Barolos I’ve had in this price range. It won’t last forever, but should have the stuffing to develop further for at least another three to five years. Decant or hold (89-90 points).

  • The winner in Decanters Barolo 2006-tasting in 2011. From quite young vines (9 years in average). Modern approach to vinification (pumpover and "short" fermentation period), but classical oaking regime (botte).

I allowed it to breath for five-six hours in a caraffe before approaching. Classical nose, on the feminine side (despite its Monforte d'Alba heritage), with notes of rose petals, hazelnut, almond and a hint of menthol. Tannins still oh so young, but not aggro in any manner. Good balance and lenght.

Well made Barolo, maybe lacking in wow-factor.

  • Brownish light garnet colour. Nose closed, light cherry wood. Entry very light mouth with an odd very hot back end like hot pepper even. Some of the most tart and trying tannins I have ever had. Like tree bark. Needs ages.
