  • This is about as saturated a zin I can remember tasting. While some zins like the older big ones Martinelli themselves got there with power from the alcohol, this is just dripping with fruit. Alcohol in the 15% range, but that juicy profile is unique. It's not a heavy/syrupy wine, nor dense like a hot central coast high octane syrah. No, this is just pure juicy blue and black fruits hanging on a frame with just enough acidity to stitch it together. Having had the '09 Papera recently, which was firmer, this impression was even more vivid to me. Will open my remaining bottle in the next 6-12 months to enjoy the fruit in current state. A fun wine, built by zin lovers for zin lovers

  • I'm a huge fan of the Carlisle style - elegant, refined, balanced and so on, but this was the yang of the yin and more on point with an Alban or SQN in style. Huge ripe juicy fruit layered with flavor and balance. Stunning.

  • Wow. One of the very best Carlisle Zins of all time for me, along with the 07 Papera, 07 and 08 Carlisle, and 02 Dry Creek. Absolutely perfect ripeness, with hints of dark plummy spicy raisins, yet also balanced with crisp bright crunchy red fruit. Great zing of acidity, perfect structural backbone, judicious vanillin oak that gives this that creamy grapesickle nuance, and a beautiful finish. Not a hint of heat, if anything this tastes like a cool climate old world young gem. So slurpable, yet classy and stylish all at once, this is the goods. At a perfectly taut and delicious peak, now and for another couple years, but this can only lose from here on out (though I'd love to try a bottle in ten years and see what magic might happen - if you do, call me then!).

  • Drank over a weekend, great balance, velvet texture and supple red fruits and integrated oak, doesn't get much better for Zin in my book.

  • Pop-n-pour at cellar temp to a dark ruby color. Expressive nose of blueberries and strawberries, with some slight eucalyptus sneaking in. Palate carries an intense rush of blue and blackberries, white pepper, mint and nutmeg. Light and silky despite the density of the fruit. Long, brambly finish. Really excellent wine in a good place right now.
