Imagine the look, smell, and taste of Welch's grape juice...with too much alcohol. That's what this is. $20 bucks! You kidding me? Pathetic. See my Lindeman's shiraz ($5) review last month.

Quite harsh at first, but improves with an hour or two in the decanter. With time, the nose reveals notes of raspberry, charcoal, cola, vanilla and milk chocolate. The palate is uncomplicated and shows well-integrated fruit (strawberry, raspberry, ink) and oak (cocoa powder). Powerful, but light-bodied and lacking smoothness.

{screwcap, 12.9%} No real age yet; savoury, relatively earthy red of medium-bodied weight and some smoked blackberry flavours and aromas. Rather lean and sinewy, but with refreshing acid; there's a nod to the Loire style of red here. Biggest drawback here is the general lack of tannin, but the interest in the flavour and other structural elements nearly make up for it. Finish is only short-medium length, however. Clearly benefits from the fine 09 vintage; surely has 3-5 advantageous years left in the tank for future drinking.

Passable but dissapointing. At $20 I expected better. One certainly pays for years (2009) but not quality.
