Scored where most Nuits St George wines are scored in the context of the vintage - this one deserves an extra point. Nicely balanced, still a bit away, but on the bright fruit side unlike many 1990's.

Quite Cabernet-like in it's approach, almost seems new world-ish, but prob just the vintage. Suffered by following more elegant/aged Burg, this was rich, firm and quite dense. I suspect with food and with some time, it could well be very enjoyable, albeit in a big ripe burg style.

Nose was a little reductive, gun powder and dark red fruits. Finese of medium red fruits, firm but pretty tannins. Finishes with lighter tones of red fruits.

Burgundy 2011 Day 3: Visit to Domaine Alain Michelot (Nuits St-Georges, Burgundy): A good wine, though not quite the best in the line-up. A bit of reduction on the nose at first, when this swirled away, it showed a deeper, earthier, perhaps lusher bouquet than the Les Cailles, with cassis and dark cherries patted down with loamy earth aromas. The palate had a lot of finesse, speaking of the Vosne-side of NSG, and yet had some of the firmness of the appelation. Still though, it was more a sense of lush fineness that marked the wine, with a precise expression of dark cherries and a sprinkle of wood spice moving into a fresh, mouthwatering finish.

Smoky nose with brambly cherries. Lovely balanced palate of vosne spice but pulls back with NSg structure.
