  • Recommended to me at the Caveau de Musigny. This was a new producer to me that I've never seen before in the US. According to Allen Meadows' book, they have holdings in four different Echezeaux climats. The question with an Echezeaux is always whether it's a true Grand Cru-quality example or more like a 1er; this one could probably go either way, as it certainly has the finesse and suavity of a Grand Cru but doesn't quite have the breadth and stuffing. Aromatically, it offers a slight whiff of spices for the first glass or so but eventually closes up and smells rather mute thereafter. But it doesn't close up on the palate as the structure is mostly in the background, the tannins essentially saturated by the fruit and with just a mild spine of acidity sticking out. All in all, a very attractive, easy-to-drink bottle and I'll look forward to seeing how my others mature.
