I think this was in a bad spot, relative to my last experience. Primarily, the oak was more obtrusive this time around than last. Prominent notes of cedar, vanilla, and humidor on both the nose and palate. There was luxurious and tasty black cherry and currant underneath, but the oak needs to settle down over a year or two. This coming from a guy who likes some oak.

PnP. For a "second" wine, this is pretty impressive and a great buy at $30. I think this could benefit from a year or two, actually. Sappy black fruits with licorice and kirsch. Tannic and dry, with a nice finish. Served a little too cool, and probably needed a decant.

(Pamplin Family Winery JRG Red Wine Columbia Valley) Dark in color. A pleasingly aromatic wine marked by brioche, plum, black cherry, wood spice, and incense. Palate is medium bodied with tart, focused cherry fruit flavors that linger on a long finish. An impressively throttled back wine. 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 14% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot. Seven Hills, Klipsun, Canoe Ridge and Wallula vineyards. Aged 20 months in French oak (46% new). 14.7% alcohol. 205 cases produced. Sample provided by winery.
