  • The wine is 100% Malbec from the Diamond Mountain District. Color (5/5) is a deep purple red; slight cling to the glass (Riedel Vinum XL Bordeaux [leaded]) with solid "legs." The nose (12/15) is discernible on opening and very big in the glass, yielding big dark chocolate and mocha coffee. A New World nose, but without the fake "sheen" so many California wines give. Mocha and blackberry cobbler rule the palate (16/20) with a hint of savory herbs reminiscent of the grape's Cahors roots. Some chicory on the medium finish. Tannins are present and steak-worthy, but subtle; "big-boned" in the mouth, but very easy to drink. I've come to expect phenomenal wines from Ramian Estate and this one doesn't disappoint. Drinking excellently now but could see development at least another five years on (8/10). In short, another triumph from Brian Graham. Get some.
