Ha, this bottle defied all odds. Vey low fill and a wet cork that fell into the bottle when teying to apply the cork screw, combined with Pierre Ponelle as elevateur, not really a 5 star name… Despite that, no sign of oxidation or musty, funky aromas. Instead, lovely tertiary notes of autumn leaves, melted tannins, good freshness.

A birthday bottle. Always a happy moment when a 45 year old Burg is still in good shape. Dark brick color, fully soaked cork, tertiary aromas, no sign of oxidation. The strong point of this wine is also its weak point. A very rustic, tannic. This must have been hard work when it was young. Quite decent now.
