  • Hmmm, my experience seems to be significantly different.

    PnP.

This had a beautiful nose, the aromas jumped out of the glass. Certainly there was minerality but that is the correct profile for how this wine was fermented.

A bit of spice on the palate but very nicely rounded out. Not hot at all. There was a significant amount of sediment in this bottle.

  • Drank immediately after opening. Quite tight. Nose was difficult to desern. Tasted, tabocco and earthyness. 20 minutes in the glass, the wine opened up. Dark fruits and chassis on the nose. Starting to get fruit on the tongue, led pencil, minerals. Moderate tannins. Not the silk juice I expect from Del Dotto.

  • I was really upset that I bought this because of the reviews below. However, I found this Zin to be really good. Bing cherry, blueberry, anise, violet, clay, white pepper, and toffee. Long finish as well. No wood/oak, just straight Zinfandel grape. Very complex. It is a bit acidic, even after 1hr 15 min decant. Needs about 2 hours in the decanter to be spot on. Not hot though.

  • Flabby and buttery. It just wasn't very good. It seemed to taste better at the winery. Can't recommend it and we had it with some outstanding Chicago style pizza.

  • I've never had a Del Dotto wine before but since we are going tasting there with some friends who are huge fans of the place and the wines I thought I'd see what all the hype (at least from them) is about.

Man...this stuff is NASTY! I don't think it's a bad bottle either...just a bad wine. Nose is very thin...not much there...and the taste is just plain odd. The alcohol is among the first things you taste...even at "just" 14.5% it very prevalent. After that the flavors are bitter and medicinal...not what you expect...or want...from a Zin. I'm trying not exaggerate here but have you ever tasted grapefruit juice after brushing your teeth? It's not that bad...but it's in the neighborhood of that taste disaster.

I opened this to be impressed and to not go there with a negative attitude about "sizzle and no steak" but that will now be tough to do. Even though one of my friends who loves this place is someone who knows wine...my suspicions have always been heightened by Dave Del Dotto's sordid background as a real estate and get rich quick fraudster from the 80's and 90's...what better way to make a comeback other than to build some ostentatious winery to overwhelm people with glitz so the crumby wines taste "great"??? I'm being very judgmental and will come back to revise my comments if our visit there turns out better than I expect...

UPDATE: Winery visit report...the Cabs we tasted were decent but not really any standouts. Many of the them have $165+ price tags which is just outrageous. The tasting room is over the top very bad Las Vegas style...what Caesar's Palace would look like on a low budget. It's a hustle...stay away.
