  • I don't get the oak that I got on the last bottle. Nice lively nose of cherry, with a little bit of cherry candy. A bit muted cherry, with some nice tannins. Not overly complex at the moment. Will revisit later after it has been open for a while, but at the moment this is high 80s for me.

Wow this has really opened up. From an 87 to 92. Nice nose of cherry, pine, earth, leather. Really nice aromatics. Still a bit closed on the palate. Nice cherry, and some nice secondary flavors. Still some strong tannins. I am sorry I only have one more of these. I want to wait a while. But I would definitely decant for an hour or so if you open one of these soon.

  • PnP. At first a bit heavy on the oak. But with air the vanilla/oak shifted to the background, and some nicer fruit and structure came forward. Drank with the 97 Fontodi Chianti Classico. The wines switched in my estimation over the evening -- with the Leone seeming a bit better by the end of the evening.

  • This wine had a clear to sediment clarity with red to garnet color, and dark intensity. Powerful aromas of strawberry, pepper, oak and smoked meats, with flavors of raspberry and strawberry. Low to medium acidity, smooth tannins and moderate finish. Found this to be an excellent Sangiovese.
