Glistening bright gold with a slight green tinge. On day 1 this came across as a slightly more sophisticated Beringer Reserve...highly viscous with saturated legs against the glass. Even the oak cooperage/flavor profile seemed almost identical. However on day 2, the oak blew off and what was there now was a nutty, highly mineral inflected wine with a saline salty finish tinged with some vanilla oak. Nice but I'm still looking for someone to craft a Chablis style wine with the fruit from this vineyard as the minerality is clearly there.

Clearly a bit of bottle variation. Tonight's bottle was nowhere near as butterscotchy and oaky. Brighter both in color (even greener) and in flavor. Much more mineral driven palate. Still showing some oak but it's more of a compliment to the fruit rather than overpowering it. Much much more enjoyable and impressive than the previous bottle.

Pale rich golden yellow. Nose is quite subdued but shows notes of overripe banana and some vanilla oak. Rich, viscous and oily on the palate with flavors of banana, honeydew melon and citrus. You can tell this wine was made by a big Napa cab producer. I've had many bottles of Hudson Chardonnay before and although this one has the classic Hudson vineyard minerality, it's buried deep beneath the oak and seems to be struggling to poke it's way through like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill punching her way up through the wooded coffin after being buried alive. This was enjoyable but I much preferred the Lee Hudson estate bottling of the same year crafted by Christopher Vandendreische of WhiteRock Vineyards.

Full and expressive. Powerful. Viscous. Unctuous. No bitter or off notes. Pdq93+
